Public Art Omaha
The image of a city is reflected in its physical environment. Public art is an integral component of this environment, defining public space and encouraging exploration. It has the power to inspire, comfort and delight. Simply put, it enhances quality of life.
Omaha’s public art collection includes outstanding works by local, regional and national artists, reflecting a variety of styles and traditions. Some pieces are publicly funded, but many are the result of private donations. A series of public art projects in recent years has helped draw attention to this vital civic contribution. Taken collectively, these efforts are helping change how Omahans think about their city.
To celebrate the important role public art plays in the civic life of Omaha, Omaha by Design and the Omaha Public Art Commission have launched PublicArtOmaha.org – a comprehensive web site dedicated to public art in the metro, including a searchable database of individual works.
The new web site is made possible by a grant from the Fund for Omaha and the generous support of volunteer committee members. For more information, call 402.934.7055 or email info@omahabydesign.org.
